Heartwarming Halloween Celebration

WEF Special Needs Group Brings Families Together for a Heartwarming Halloween Celebration

The Women Empowerment Foundation (WEF) hosted a Halloween Potluck Celebration on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Mountain View Community Center in Scottsdale. The event brought together more than 80 participants, including families, children, and volunteers, for an afternoon of food, activities, learning, and interaction.

The event was an extension of the commitment of the WEF’s Special Needs pillar, which focuses on supporting families raising children with special needs by creating opportunities for families to connect, share stories/ resources and build lasting friendships.

The gathering began with an introduction to WEF, its initiatives, and its board members. Swami Chidatmananda then shared an inspiring message on oneness and the divinity present in every individual, reminding every one, the importance of respect and celebrating each person’s uniqueness.

Sharing Stories and Learning

The afternoon continued with one of its meaningful moments as Dr. Sailesh and Rekha Athreya shared their family’s journey with their son, who is on the autism spectrum. Their honest account of their challenges, perseverance and unconditional love resonated with many parents.

The event also featured two pertinent informative sessions.

Savithri introduced Photobiomodulation (PBM), or low-level laser therapy, sharing insights into its potential applications and relevance in supporting individuals with special needs.

Rithik and Sheila spoke about Communication Access for Non-Speakers and Minimal Speakers, highlighting the importance of giving individuals opportunities to express themselves and be understood.

Both sessions encouraged parents to learn, ask questions, exchange ideas, and explore resources.

An Afternoon of Celebration

The afternoon was a wonderful mix of Halloween costumes, music, dancing, and laughter. Families brought a wonderful variety of dishes, creating a delicious spread that made the potluck feel like a gathering among friends.

Parents also had a chance to relax, connect with other families, and share their experiences.

Thank You and Looking Ahead

The entire event was a reflection of the warmth and togetherness of our community, with families coming together, speakers sharing their knowledge and experiences, and volunteers contributing their time and efforts. The children’s smiles and joyful energy made the gathering especially memorable.

At WEF, we believe families need a community they can turn to, not just for resources but also for friendship, understanding, and encouragement. We look forward to many more opportunities to come together, learn, celebrate, and support one another.

Because sometimes, knowing that you are not alone makes all the difference.
